Josh Needs is an Australian-based multi-instrumentalist who began playing music at 11-years-old after being drawn to his parent’s favourite rock n' roll records like Fleetwood Mac & The Eagles with inspiration from pop punk music and ACDC.
Josh’s music style is pop rock, singer/songwriter meets alternative, crossing many genres and inspired by the likes of John Mayer, Kasey Musgraves, Ray LaMontagne, and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Josh is a talented songwriter especially skilled at drawing his audience into his life to experience struggles and heartbreak together. His authentic approach to songwriting is reflected in the way his brooding sound resonates with his fans. Another factor to Josh’s musical domination is his ability to write all of his own music, sometimes collaborating with writers such as Glenn Sarangapany (Birds of Tokyo), Dean Ray and producers such as Nathan Sheehy (Birds of Tokyo) and Graham Bidstrup (The Angels, GANGgajang).
Josh earns the attention of legendary artists and plays alongside them, such as his support for Phil Emmanuel during his Northern NSW tour. Josh was so impressive as a young artist that he went on to support Diesel in his Velvet Curtain Tour, performed at Woodford Folk Festival, Blues on Broadbeach and Airlie Beach Music Festival. Through sheer determination, Josh grabbed the attention of Tommy Emmanuel over a single email, resulting in a personal invitation to perform alongside Tommy at the Sydney Opera House. After this performance, Tommy Emmanuel called Josh,
“A great ambassador for the next generation of Australian guitar players”.
